Cleveland Guardians sign Marathon as inaugural MLB sleeve partner

Major League Baseball (MLB) side The Cleveland Guardians have announced their first sleeve partnership with Ohio-based Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC).

As part of the deal, the new Endurance logo of MPC’s retail brand ‘Marathon’ will be featured on the sleeve of the Guardians’ jerseys up until the end of the 2026 MLB season.

The Marathon branding will also be visible on certain advertising spots at The Guardians’ ballpark – the Progressive Field Stadium in Cleveland.

Brian Partee, Senior Vice President of Global Clean Products at Marathon, said: “With our Ohio roots and just over a decade separating our founding, we think it’s fitting to be the Cleveland Guardians inaugural jersey patch sponsor.

“While we can both be proud of our past, it’s the future we’re most excited about, including this partnership. As a bonus, many of our employees and customers are generational and passionate fans of the celebrated ball club.”

With the deal now in full effect, The Guardians have become the 12th MLB team to place a branded patch on their jerseys, following recent activations from the likes of the New York Mets, the Boston Red Sox, the LA Angels, and more.

Two Guardians-Marathon jersey fan giveaways are planned to take place for each of the 2024-2026 seasons.

Brian Barren, President of Business at The Cleveland Guardians, commented: “We look forward to expanding our relationship with Marathon as our inaugural jersey patch partner.

“When we started to look for a partner to don on our jersey, we knew we wanted an Ohio-based brand that was recognizable to our fans and had been a part of the northeast Ohio community for as long, if not longer, than we have.

“Marathon checked all those boxes, putting down Ohio roots as far back as 1887, and we look forward to partnering with them in our community and with our fans for years to come.”
