The Saudi Pro League (SPL) is moving to further enhance its international visibility through content at a time of heightened investment in the country’s sports scene.

This week, the Saudi top-flight announced a deal with OneFootball, a sports content agency with a history of working with some of the world’s most prominent football leagues.

The deal will focus on the creation and delivery of official video and editorial content, provided by OneFootball and distributed across the SPL’s social media channels.

Patrick Fischer, CEO at OneFootball, said: “We are thrilled to partner with the Saudi Pro League to showcase the incredible talent and excitement of football in the region.

“This collaboration will elevate the league’s content and enhance the overall fan experience, bringing the vibrant world of Saudi football to a wider audience.”

OneFootball’s Saudi content will encompass match clips, highlights, behind-the-scenes football and viral moments, delivered in ‘vertical and horizontal formats’, the company says.

Editorial coverage will also be included under the deal, with OneFootball pledging to offer ‘timely updates, in-depth analysis, and expert commentary’ over the 2024/25 season. The end goal of the partnership is to further enhance the fan experience.

The SPL has been building up its international profile significantly over recent years, notably attracting some provincial players including former Premier League, La Liga and Ligue 1 stars.

Much of this has come in the context of increasing government investment in Saudi Arabia’s sports ecosystem. The Riyadh Season, an annual sports season across multiple disciplines, is perhaps the biggest example of this, covering boxing, tennis, golf and motorsports events, among other sports.

“We are delighted to partner with OneFootball to bring Saudi Pro League content to football fans across the globe,” said Omar Mugharbel, CEO of the SPL.

“This collaboration is an important step in our commitment to increasing international engagement and providing fans everywhere with a closer connection to the excitement and passion of Saudi football.”
